Designed by Donald Wexler, father of “desert modern” architecture, Casa Tranquillo -- once featured on HGTV -- sits at the base of the San Jacinto mountains in The Mesa, a historic neighborhood 5 minutes from downtown Palm Springs. A showcase of Wexler’s signature butterfly roof style, the home’s swimming pool also mirrors the distinctive shape.
Landscaped with soaring palm trees, a ficus privacy wall and a lush side lawn with a lemon tree, the newly renovated home has kept the integrity of the Wexler design with modern updates, including tanning ledges and water features in the swimming pool.
The sprawling backyard, which also has a hot tub, fire pit and 6-seat dining area with a BBQ grill, is ideal for small gatherings. Stroll along flagstone patios, soak up the famed Palm Springs sun on chaise lounge chairs, or enjoy a drink at the shaded patio table with close-up mountain views.
Inside, find distinctive mid-century design elements, including travertine floors and a lighted opaque glass wall. In the unique step-up living room, sink into one of two sectional sofas by the large-screen TV and a cozy fireplace. In a separate, sunken sitting area, another sectional and coffee table offers a place to relax with a cocktail or laze with a magazine. Exposed stone and glass walls throughout create a feeling of indoor/outdoor living.
For dinner indoors, seat up to 10 guests at the formal dining table, which sits next to an inspiring gallery wall of blown glass vases. Just off this area is the gourmet kitchen, which combines modern amenities with mid-century design. Find hardwood cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and four swivel chairs for leisurely mornings over coffee.
Each of the bedrooms offers room to relax with an indoor or outdoor sitting area.
With parking for five cars in the driveway, easily explore the surrounding area from downtown Palm Springs, a 5-minute drive, to Joshua Tree National Park, an hour away. The home also lies just 4 minutes from Indian Canyons Golf Resort and a mile from local hiking trails.

This spacious guest master has a private entrance to the patio with a two-seat breakfast table outside, a TV atop a mid-century style dresser, a full-length mirror, and a jack and jill bathroom with a glass shower.
Bedroom 3: Queen bed. This cozy room has a stone accent wall and sitting area with a lounge chair. A TV sits atop a tall hardwood dresser. This bedroom shares a bathroom with bedroom two.
Bedroom 4: Queen bed This room has a private entrance to the patio, with a sitting area just outside. Guests also have a full dresser, dressing bench and twin nightstands.
Bedroom 5: Queen Murphy bed. Ideal for guests who must balance work and leisure, this room has an office area with a large desk and printer. Guests also enjoy a private entrance to the patio and an en-suite bathroom with dual sinks and a glass shower shared with bedroom four.
